Next Book Club Title Just Announced!

Next Teen Book Club will meet
Monday, February 11th at 6:30 pm
and discuss...

UGLIES by Scott Westerfeld
Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license -- for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world -- and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

Don't forget to check out Scott's blog at http://scottwesterfeld.com/.

Book Club members will separate into guys and girls and each will have a discussion leader. Then the group will come back together to talk about the book as a group. Refreshments provided. To RSVP, call the branch at 214-671-1365 or email timberglenteens@gmail.com.

Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonneblick

Thirteen-year-old Steven has a totally normal life: he plays drums in the All-Star Jazz band, has a crush on the hottest girl in the school, and is constantly annoyed by his five-year-old brother, Jeffrey. But when Jeffrey is diagnosed with leukemia, Steven's world is turned upside down. He is forced to deal with his brother's illness and his parents' attempts to keep the family in one piece. Salted with humor and peppered with devastating realities, DRUMS, GIRLS, AND DANGEROUS PIE is a heart warming journey through a year in the life of a family in crisis.

Teen Book Club Kicks off in November!

We have reorganized the Teen Book Club in order to make it more fun for YOU!
We kick off the first discussion on Monday, November 12th at 5pm, followed by monthly meetings the second Monday of the month at 5pm in the classroom.

Our Book Club will split into a "Guys Read" and "Girls Read." The Guys will read "Slam!" bu Walter Dean Myers...Greg "Slam" Harris can do it all on the baskeball court, and he knows he could be one of the lucky ones to make it all the way to the top. But his failing grades and volatile temper are becoming obstacles to the success he yearns for. Slam's going one-on-one with his future, and it's a showdown he can't afford to lose.

The Girls will talk about"The Earth, My Butt & Other Big Round Things" by Carolyn Mackler...
Fifteen-year-old Virginia Shreves is the blond, round, average daughter in a family of dark-haired, thin superstars. Her best friend has moved away, and she's on the fringes at her private Manhattan school. The story follows Virginia as she tries to lose weight, struggles with her "imperfections," and deals with the knowledge that her idealized older brother has committed date rape. There's a lot going on here, but it provides a hopeful ending for those trying stand on their own two feet.

Don't miss it...it's going to be great fun. Teens will vote on the next selections at the November meeting!

Calling all Young Adults!

We are looking for a FEW GOOD TEENS!

Timberglen would like to create an advisory board of teens and for teens. We are the library in your community. Come and tell us how we can make a difference, come talk about books, music and movies. Make suggestions about what you'd like to see in the library. Plan and implement programs for teens. We want you to tell us what kind of programs you'd attend, what interests you, what you like to read, what you think we should have and so on. We know you have opinions so we want to hear them!

Check out this blog. Help make suggestions!
